The capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is one of the view world capitals that is still affordable to visit. Nonetheless, budget-minded travelers are always looking to save money, so here are five free things to do in Kuala Lumpur.
Petronas Twin Towers Sky Bridge. Only 1,000 first-come, first-served tickets are issued daily for the Petronas Twin Towers, easily KL’s 21st century icon at a height of 451.9 meters (nearly 1,500 feet or a quarter of a mile). Get there before 10 AM or inquire after 4 PM in case some tickets have been returned.
Galeri Petronas. An art gallery was set up inside the towers to promote the preservation and development of Malaysian art. Here are temporary exhibitions, workshops, an artist in residence, and an art resource center. Open every day except Mondays.
Orchid Park, Hibiscus Park and Kuala Lumpur Deer Park. Located at Lake Gardens, these three parks are free on weekdays (weekend and public holiday fee is RM1). The natural flora and fauna of this region are stunning.
Royal Selangor Visitor Center. Malaysia’s pewter-making tradition is on display here from 9 AM to 5 PM, with guided tours available. However, tuition is RM50 for those who’d like to make their own pewter in a hands-on workshop. Advance registration is required.
People Watching and Window Shopping along Bukit Bintang. Fondly known as “BB” by the locals, the Bukit Bintang area hosts the city’s best shopping malls, so there’s always a crowd.
